“How the tortoise became bald” is the latest addition to a list of over 40 short African stories on Rubies Africa app. It is a prequel to the story “How the snake learned to crawl” another folktale on the app.
African folktales are timeless stories typically circulated orally amongst African people. While the storyline may change over time, the goal which is to hand down wisdom from parents to child from generation to generation remains the same.
According to this folktale, everyone knows tortoises are bald but it wasn’t always like that.
